2012 will be the fourth edition of the Special Olympics NC Torch Run 5k. Proceeds from this event benefit Special Olympics NC and the 38,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities that participate in the year-round sports programming offered at no cost. This event is hosted by the NC State Police Department and is a major part of the department’s fundraising effort to benefit the North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics each year.

The 2012 version of the Run for the Oaks will be the 30th annual running of this event. Over 600 runners signed up for this race in 2011. Brett Howell won the race in 16:19. Sarah Lee won the women's title in 18:21. Mark Andrews (14:23) holds the course mark for the men. Tara Wojcieckowski (16:58) holds the women’s course mark.

The Great Human Race is excited to announce a NEW event venue and course... Northgate Mall, in Durham, NC, is our new host. We will be able to expand our Nonprofit Marketplace and continue to offer the popular kids inflatable playground area, exciting local entertainment and refreshments. Parking is plentiful and Northgate Mall is easily accessible from all directions. The new 5k course will wind through the historic Watts Hospital-Hillandale neighborhood. This gently rolling course will take runners and walkers through one of the loveliest and most active neighborhoods in Durham, a grand urban gesture.

Ready to rock ‘n roll? We are – now we have a site that will allow us to turn up the volume! OK, we admit it, we were too loud for Downtown. No problem, we moved to the RBC Center and now have plenty of space to spread out, offer free parking and rock all day. The course begins at the RBC Center Lawn between the RBC Center and Carter-Finley Stadium.We run a 3 mile loop then go north on Blue Ridge Road before retuning on Reedy Creek Road to Trenton and back to the RBC Center. The course comes back to Finish on the Westside of the RBC Center.

Girls on the Run of the Triangle, Inc will hold it’s 10th Annual Girls on the Run 5k and Fun Run at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham, NC on Saturday, April 14, 2012. The event plans to attract more than 3,000 runners, volunteers, and supporters. Post-race celebration will continue with a festival for people of all ages and will include a Kids Zone, interactive playgrounds, food, music, entertainment, and many more fun and exciting activities for families and kids. The 4th Annual Run For Our Heroes honors and remembers Raleigh's fallen officers and their families as we pay tribute to the sacrifices they made for the City of Raleigh. After a short ceremony across from City Hall, the 5K run/walk is a certified course that makes it way through beautiful downtown Raleigh. The McGruff's Kids' Dash for children 10 and under will occur after the completion of the 5K. Once the awards ceremony is completed, the event transitions to Napper Tandy's for a post race social; free to our participants.
