The 5K and 10K utilize different starts and courses! the 5K is more road-runner friendly with some trails and the Scramble 10K is a more challenging trail course but with the same finish and a post race party by the Nature Center and pavilions.

The Scrub Jay 5K is a course designed with the road-runners in mind. There is still the beauty and nature of Oscar Scherer Park on mostly hard packed surfaces but there are still some tree roots and a section on the trails and a little bit of the dreaded "sugar sand." You will begin near the Nature Center and travel the length of the main entrance road just about to the entrance before turning onto the Lester Finley trail and South Creek Nature Trail on mostly prepared-surface park trails including crushed shell and paver paths then onto earthen trails for the last 3/4 mile with only a very small sandy area.

The Scrub Jay Scramble 10K is a course on the trails, sugar-sand included, with some ups and downs using recently created pedestrian underpasses and overpasses. Designed by trail runners for trail runners using the parks' features to challenge even experienced trail runners. Check out the detailed description and map of the Scrub Jay Scramble 10K. For 2025 there will be a slight detour to avoid the damaged areas of the Orange Trail.

This is a Foster Care Awareness Event. In-person and virtual racing options are available. The Kids' Fun Run starts at 8:30am. The 5K will be on a CHIP START between 9-9:10am. You will receive an official chip time and place. Master and Overall timed at gun time 9am. USATF Rules.

More than just a race, the Superhero race brings together child welfare agencies and the community to highlight the approximately 700 youth who are in local foster care in Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto Counties, while providing a family-friendly event with music, a kiddie zone, food, and giveaways.

Kids in foster care and those who care for them are some of our community's most incredible heroes, which is the reason they have chosen a superhero theme. So don't be shy... come dressed as your favorite hero and get ready for an awesome race and cause! Participation medals will be awarded to the first 700 5K runners to cross the finish line!

5K RUN FOR THE DONUT IS SANCTIONED BY THE MANASOTA TRACK CLUB, AND IS IN THE 2026 RACING SERIES.

Costumes encouraged, the crazier the better. Saturday Race Schedule:

8:00 am start for 5K Fun Run starts 30ish minutes after 5K race start Location: Lakeview Elementary School, 7299 Proctor Rd in Sarasota through Bent Tree Woodlands II

All parking and indoor bathrooms are at the Sarasota Baptist Church across the street. Port a Potties available at Lakeview.

THIS RACE WILL HAPPEN RAIN OR SHINE. If there are unsafe conditions for runners and volunteers (for example, heavy rain, wind and lightning) the race will switch to a virtual race.

Other things to know

Strollers and dogs are welcome. 1 water stop halfway through the course. EMS will be on site at the school campus. We are making every effort to have this be a NO WASTE RACE. If you don't like your award or the shirt doesn't fit, you are welcome to exchange it for something else after the race. (Look for the Award Exchange table in the race village.) You can take a picture with your medal and then turn it back in, and we will reuse it next year.

This will always be a small, family feel event - race capped at 500 registrants.

Join us for our FCA 5K as we support future leaders of our community in faith and character The FCA 5K is a family focused run, welcoming every runner/walker to join us in exercise, music, entertainment, and friendship. The event will help cultivate the high school student leadership of The Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
